Monorail plaque
Although we know where most of the items in our collection are from or what they are about, here is one which has us stumped. This plaque is one of the more unusual items that we have come across. We know of 2 of these items that currently exist. To our knowledge, there has never been a monorail system constructed in Niagara Falls. The idea of building a monorail keeps resurfacing, however. We would like to know where this groundbreaking took place and who was involved. If you have any information on this item, we'd love to hear from you.

The NFRM has in it's collection many interesting postcards. This particular example portrays the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, a Maid of the Mist boat and a steam powered Michigan Central freight train stopped at Fallsview. It was mailed from Buffalo, New York, on July 23rd, 1941 reaching it's destination of Essexville, Michigan the next day at 4pm. Items of note include the 1 cent George Washington stamp, and the "Buy Defense Savings Bonds and Stamps" stamp directly below the postage. The postcard was created by Metropolitan, in Everett, Massachusetts.
