December 3rd is Giving Tuesday, a chance for people to give back and help around the world. The Niagara Railway Museum Inc is a part of this. We are looking to raise some funds for some of our different projects. Our 2 main projects at this time are the cosmetic restoration of our 1920 ALCo steam locomotive, HEPC 46. Funds donated to this project will go toward the rebuild of the cab. One of our members Rob has been putting a lot of time and effort into all new CAD drawings of the current cab. This cab is in very poor condition, with damage and deterioration from years of having coal left in the bunker.
Our other project is some much needed repairs to our GE 25ton diesel. Rob has been doing cosmetic work on the unit and it’s really looking good. However, there are some mechanical issues that we need to address before next season. We have discovered a blown seal in one of the air valves in the brake system. This item will need to be removed and sent away to be rebuilt or replaced. The other repair is in the drive sprocket on the front axle. It is a 2 piece sprocket and one have is in very poor condition with missing and damaged teeth. We do not yet have a full cost on these repairs, and need to get the items removed before we’ll know. We expect the repairs to be at a minimum $2000. The new gear will have to be custom machined. These repairs will keep the GE going for years to come, as it is an integral part of the operation of the Museum, allowing us to move equipment around for repairs and display.
We hope you will consider supporting the NRM on Giving Tuesday, or even as we go into the Christmas season. We know there are many worthy Charities and causes out there to support, and we thank everyone for their consideration. The NRM is a Charitable Organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. All donations over $25 will receive a Charitable Tax Receipt.
